Independent Project

In this project, I made an advertisement for MSN Messenger, and the aim is make more people to use MSN, because, Many people started to use other tools to chat with friends along with the emerging of Skype or Yahoo messenger, but MSN is still the main tool for communicate with each other, so in this project, I made a funny video which told a story that how the msn pass your messages to your friend, and the theme of this video is safe and quick. There were two stories in this video, one is MSN met Skype on the way to pass messages to my friends, and then they fought, but finally, MSN won, it represents a idea of ‘no one and nothing can stop MSN’, which also shows the security of MSN Messenger, it can protect your conversation not been seen by others, and the other story is MSN took strain to send messages, which represents the speed of MSN is very quick.

My Brand’s name is MOMO, which is my nickname, and the title line is ‘Move your Own World’, so, I tried to make everything can be moved in this video, such as MSN logo (the green guy) and Skype logo. And my brand logo is made up with pink and green panes, and there is different letters on those panes, so the brand name is in the middle and title line is vertical with title line, in the same time, every word in the title line includes one letter of brand name, it makes brand name and title line link up together, also represent the idea of brand.

From this project, I improved many skills on photoshop and after effect. This is the first time I linked photos and make them move like a film, in the beginning I take photos, I did not focus on the angle of pictures, so there were many photos cannot be used in project, they were in different angles, so they looked like different background, thus, I took photos again and got many useful photos to be the background of video. However, when I almost finished for liking these photos together, I just found out that every photo has big size; the most of them is over 1 MB, so they caused after effect run slowly, and some pictures cannot be imported

There were some other problems that I met in the process of project. I was thinking about use the effect of snowing in the video, because I set the background of this video is in China, and here is snowing now, plus it can represent an idea of ‘nothing can stop MSN to pass the messages’, but I found there is no effect of snowing in after effect of my laptop, because I did not have a plug-in to make this effect, so I had to change my plan and cancelled this idea.

In terms of MSN logo, I added a scarf, foot, eyes and mouth for him, those made him is more look like a real man, and the scarf is also suit this weather. But when I tried to make him walk by his foot, I found it was weird, so my friend told me that just make him move, which looks like more suitable. In the other side, I also create a image which is the view of MSN logo’s back, it is a good angle for some scenes, such as when the MSN logo is waiting for the train or taking on the train, in these scenes, I used the view of his back,

In a conclusion, in this advertisement for MSN Messenger, I improved some skills on after effect and photoshop according to solving the problems I met in the process of making video, and also I have got many new ideas during the process, like create the view of MSN logo’s back.
